When Stacie Clark, personal trainer and co-founder of mobile training service for athletes of all ages and skill levels Tiger Athletics, approached local boutique Hot Mama with the idea of an in-store workout, two seemingly parallel worlds collided. “We both have such similar beliefs on empowering women,” Clark says. “So that’s where it was a no-brainer.”
From there, Gutts and Butts was born. The floor-based workout takes place weekly right in Edina’s Hot Mama store. All skill levels are welcome, and only an exercise or yoga mat is required to join in the high-energy class. All fun aside, this 60-minute workout focuses on the core and emphasizes working multiple muscle groups at once, everything from the shoulders to the knees: “That’s 29 muscles and 58 attachments,” Clark says.
The class, held 9–10 a.m. Fridays, has a limited size, so reserving a spot at tigerathletics.com is recommended. Packages of five, 10 and 20 classes are available along with single drop-in sessions, and all participants receive a 10 percent off voucher to use at Hot Mama after the class. While Gutts and Butts is currently the only class Tiger Athletics offers in Edina, the company can be hired for personal training, small groups and team training.
