What year did Edina officially become a city? How much did the first home in the Country Club District sell for? The recently released set of Edina playing cards will answer these questions, along with 50 others.
Launched by the Edina Community Foundation as a fundraiser for Edina Community Channel 16, the deck of playing cards celebrates the city’s rich history (each of the 52 cards sports a different fact about the local land). This is the third set the city has released; the first selling in 2005 and the second in 2008.
“Whether you like to play rummy or poker or are just interested in the history of Edina, these playing cards are fun and mark many significant moments in the community’s history,” says Jennifer Bennerotte, Edina communications and marketing director.
The cards retail for $4–$6, with proceeds going to fund new equipment for the EDINA 16 station such as green screens, lights and microphones. Decks are available at Braemar Pro Shop, Edina City Hall, Edina Senior Center, Jerry’s Foods and Jerry’s Hardware, and can be purchased online at cityofedina.com/store.
