Local blogger, drink master and hedge-fund consultant Michelle Palm can now add “successful author” to her resume. Her culinary cocktail experiments turned into the nationally popular Jelly Shot Test Kitchen blog, which soon caught the attention of publishers. Released this past spring, Jelly Shot Test Kitchen: Jell-ing Classic Cocktails—One Drink at a Time chronicles Palm’s passion for the gorgeous, wiggly, jiggly little solid drinks.

A long way from what the college set knows as Jell-o shots, Palm’s jelly shots are reinterpretations of popular, grown-up cocktails, all perfectly sophisticated and positively beautiful. “The jelly shots were translated directly from the cocktail recipes into gelatin form wherever possible, using classic proportions of alcohol to mixers,” Palm says. The new book features recipes for everything from Manhattans to banana daiquiris, including all the shot-making tips and tricks you could ever want and dazzling photos from Palm’s photography partner Amy Webster.
