Nothing to do on Mother’s Day weekend? If Mom loves flowers, consider joining the hundreds of local gardeners who once again will invade Arneson Acres Park (4711 W. 70th St.) for the 39th annual Edina Garden Council Plant Sale, the Edina Garden Council’s biggest fundraiser.

This two-day event, held 10 a.m.–8 p.m. May 11 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. May 12, hosts annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and hanging baskets provided by the council. “I like to call it the boutique of plant sales,” says Karen Platt, event chairwoman.

New to the event this year are different hybrids of annuals and perennials, garden art created by council members and hanging baskets featuring vegetables. “We take pride in designing our hanging baskets and they’re very unique,” Platt says. Besides the plant selection, the sale also offers a drive-through for plant pickup and gardening advice from council members.

Proceeds from the sale go directly to various Edina Garden Council projects, including gardening in Arneson Acres Park, horticultural scholarships and flower beds for the city of Edina.
