It’s time to think outside the classic dinner-movie-drink combo, whether it’s for a first date or an evening out for a long-married duo. Shake things up this fall with some creative local date ideas, courtesy of Edina “relationship agent” Amy Rolando. As the founder of Edina-based Pairings Group and a 12-year matchmaking veteran, Rolando knows a thing or two about planning the perfect fall date.
1. Take in a free concert at Edinborough Park and then head to Pinstripes for a game of bocce. “A concert and a game is the new dinner and a movie,” says Rolando.
2. Take a participation class at Cooks of Crocus Hill and enjoy beer and wine while you cook. Finish the night with an authentic Italian dessert at Arezzo Ristorante.
3. Go for a true “mini” date with small plates at Beaujo’s, tapas at Cocina del Barrio and a round of mini golf on Centennial Lakes’ scaled-down links.
4. Pack a picnic basket and stroll the nature trails at Bredesen Park. “It’s beautiful in the fall and you feel like you’re in the middle of the country,” says Rolando.
And Rolando’s top pick for a great date? The right attitude. “The people that have the most success are those that are open to the experience and can take something out of every meeting,” says Rolando. “Ditch the list!”
