Edina

As mittens and sleds are put away for good (or at least until next winter's first snowflake), the warm weather prompts a return to picnics, long nights and outdoor events. In Edina, that list also includes luxuriating in music, since the city abounds with numerous events from May to August that will delight kids and adults alike. Here's our top picks of where to hear the sweet sounds of spring and summer, brought to you by the impressive musical talent our cities have to offer.

Centennial Lakes
During the summer months, the Centennial Lakes park and recreation area buzzes with activity, thanks to its lawn bowling, croquet courts, putting course and paddleboats.
From June through August, cultural performances are held outdoors at the Maetzold Amphitheater, and concerts make up a large part of the annual program. This year, there are a breadth of offerings, with music geared toward children on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons—look for the Alpha Bits Band and Bob the Beachcomber as two of the popular acts—as well as local bands and orchestras on other days and evenings.
Every Sunday night, there's a large-scale musical act such as the Northern Winds Concert Band, while Mondays are a bit more low-key with smaller groups or even tango lessons. But weeknights have been known to bring in crowds that rival weekends, so be prepared for both scenarios.

Insider Tip: If a summer sky is looking more green than blue, call the Centennial Lakes' Summer Concert Weather Hotline at 952.832.6780. During inclement weather, most performances are moved indoors to Edinborough Park, so a quick call can keep you from wondering why you are the only one outside.
