One of Edina’s favorite tailoring shops is relocating. The beloved sew shop is headed a few feet down the street, to a new location in the Jerry’s Foods Complex.
Since Lee Ta and her sister Noi Huang opened Tailors of Edina in 1989, it has become the go-to spot for resident’s hems, alterations and tailoring needs. They started the business after the outbreak of the Vietnam War, when the sisters and their family became refugees and were forced to leave Laos as the country was overtaken by the Communist group, Laos People’s Revolution Party. Their family was sponsored by a church in Excelsior, and has made their home in Edina ever since. This wasn’t the first time their family had to leave behind their homeland; originally from China, their father fled to Laos after World War II.
The sisters began sewing out of necessity; they are both petite and found that it was hard to find clothing that fit. Sewing may be viewed is a lost skill in society today, but Ta and Huang are keeping the art alive, right here in Edina. “We love the people of Edina,” says Ta. “ We have been here for so long that we know our customers and their families very well.” Tailors of Edina, 5101 Vernon Ave. South, Suite 401; 952.920.8785
