Edina Resident Turns Tech Entrepreneur

Ubooly aims to be the new Tama-gotchi

Edina native Gavin Lee is now a co-founder of Ubooly, a voice-interactive toy that works with your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Co-founders Carly Gloge and Isaac Squires came together with Lee to design and develop the product they describe as this generation’s mix between Ferby and Tama-gotchi. The product was picked up by TechStars, which only accepts 1 percent of ideas it gets pitched. TechStars invested in Ubooly and provided mentors to help ensure the product’s success. The brains behind Ubooly presented their ideas to investors in Silicon Valley this past summer.

Lee speaks affectionately about Minnesota and his special connection to Edina, where he and his wife bought their first home. He hopes to someday grow the technology industry here in his home state.

Lee encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to take the leap: “Chase your dreams and anything is possible, But there’s no substitute for hard work.”
