Single-Sort Method Aims to Increases Edina Recycling by 20 Percent

All-in-one method aims to increase recycling by 20 percent.

In October, Edinans welcomed single-sort recycling, a step that the city hopes will increase recycling by 20 percent and make the community more eco-friendly. The ubiquitous blue recycling carts around town now accept most forms of recyclable waste. Those days of arduously sorting bottles and tin cans from old newspapers are over.

“Single-sort is going to be great for Edina,” says city of Edina Recycling Coordinator Solvei Wilmot, who expects recycling to increase by 20 percent with this switch. “It’s going to make recycling really easy. All recyclables they collect can be comingled in one container.”

The city of Edina rolled out a humorous YouTube video in late September titled the “All-in-One All Stars.” In it, household clutter items such as a Swiss army knife, a remote control and a printer/scanner all yield to the show’s winner, a blue single-sort recycling cart adorned with a purple ribbon.
