READ

Searching for ideas for a patio? Check out Walks, Patios & Walls, published as an Ultimate Guide by Creative Homeowner. It offers step-by-step instructions for backyard projects. Creative Publishing International’s The Complete Guide to Patios & Walkways:  Money-saving Do-it-yourself Projects for Improving Outdoor Living Space has a title that says it all. When the work is finished and the tools put away, pick up Vince Flynn’s American Assassin, Jodi Picoult’s Sing You Home, Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder, debut novelist Tea Obreht’s The Tiger’s Wife or The Confession by John Grisham, then relax on the patio’s chaise lounge with a glass of iced tea, and enjoy a good read.

DRINK

Is there a better time of year to sit outside, enjoy fabulous weather and sip fantastic wine?  Patio season is upon us, and with more than one reason to celebrate the season, a great bottle of wine to savor should be the icing to our cake! I love light effervescent when it comes to my summer sippers, which is why I highly recommend the very dry, slightly sparkly white wines from the Basque region of Spain. Txakolina, in particular, is a must-have for all of my patio entertainment. The Ameztoi Txakolina ($22), with its bright and briny, yet very limey notes of sea salt and citrus zest, is one of my favorites. Pop a cork and surprise your friends with this rare, yet exciting summer libation.

Sounds Of Summer—The Very Best Of The Beach Boys is the ultimate warm weather record. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the band, this is a perfect way for you to catch up and hear the history. Their classic hits span over four decades, and they sound as good today as they did when they originally came out. Known for their incredible harmonies, the Beach Boys use their voices as instruments.  Bikinis and the Beach Boys go hand in hand, so put on some sunscreen, and crank up the sounds of summer!
