With the London Olympics in the rearview mirror, do you miss watching swimming and diving events? Fear not—the Edina Girl’s swim and dive team has you covered. This month, the squad hopes to win the state championship for the third year in a row. Captain Heather Laedtke, a senior, says this of her goals for the season: “Stay super team-oriented. It’s not about doing well on an individual level, it’s about the team doing well.” This approach involves training in the pool and making the most of every meet this season. Laedtke is co-captain with seniors Madeleine Eden and Yasmeen Almog. The three have been swimming together since they made the varsity team in seventh grade. Besides their goal to win state this year, they seek to make sure that the younger girls have the same great experience that they’ve all enjoyed. U.S. gold medalist and world record-breaking swimmer Missy Franklin is an idol whom Laedtke respects because “she’s the same age as me and seems positive and team-oriented.” The state meet will be November 16 –17. Go get your swimming and diving fix by cheering on the Hornets!
