What to get mom for Mother’s Day? A handbag that’s both chic and functional—designed by an active Edina mom who knows.

Know a woman on-the-go who carries her life in her handbag? Chances of that being true are, we estimate, approximately 98.7 percent of you. Enter busy-Edina-mom-turned-handbag-designer Bridget Connell, who in February launched a collection of high-quality, high-function handbags.

Connell brings with her to the new line a long history of design experience, and an even longer history of handbag obsession. (“I have always been a handbag girl. Always,” Connell confesses. “After my first job, I spent my first paycheck on two handbags and a wallet.”) Shortly after graduating, she began working for her family designing purses, accessories and home furnishings for several national brands. With the birth of her son Sam almost two years ago, Connell fully realized the need for a bag that would be classically chic with a modern functionality. Desiring to be able to work from home and spend more time with her son, Connell followed her dream and began developing a full line of bags, bc designs, perfectly suited for the fashionable yet trés-active gal.

Ranging in size from efficient wristlets to sizeable carry-alls, the bags are made out of sumptuous high-quality leathers of all colors (that she personally sources) and boast styled hardware like buckles, chains and her darling logo. Inspired by her style icons (old Hollywood starlets and the chicest person she’s known, her grandmother), the silhouettes are created to work for you. The woven “Jacquline” ($278) is self-professed “first lady material” with its ample room, outside pockets and zip closure. While the “Judy” ($148) is a workhorse of a nylon bag, boasting five outside pockets and adjustable bottom straps for hands-free toting of your yoga mat or jacket. 612.730.1143
