Where can yogis go to practice their “downward dog,” buy rock-climbing apparel and look chic in an urban setting that welcomes both Spandex and water bottles? They can visit prAna—a name derived from the ancient Sanskrit word for “breath, life and vitality of the spirit” —which opened at 50th and France in late October, in the space formerly occupied by Priscilla of Boston.
PrAna stores, with other locations in select markets including Santa Barbara, Calif., Portland, Ore., and Boulder, Colo., are designed to be community centers that offer yoga and meditation and sell activewear apparel for both genders. The company, which boasts a decidedly West Coast aura, began making clothing in 1992 that worked well for both yoga and rock climbing. The first orders were sewn in a garage and shipped to customers in surplus fruit boxes from the local grocery store.
The fruit boxes are gone, but the sense of peace and namaste is not. So visit prAna and put your mind and body at peace.
