Businesses Adapting to Online Demand

Local style specialist pivots from brick-and-mortar retail to fashion consulting.
As consumers gravitate toward online shopping, business owners must find creative ways to tailor to the trend. Jodi Mayers closed her retail store in August and opened Jodi Mayers & Style Partners, a fashion consulting business for the times. “In a world that’s geared toward convenience, we’re seeing an increase in online shopping,” says Mayers.
Mayers took the new trend as an opportunity to offer services missing from the less personal online experience. These services include: help packing for a trip, finding outfits for your teenage daughter (that both of you will love) and home styling. Mayers will also be partnering with Ridgedale Center to provide personal shopping services to customers.
Mayers recommends her clients use the buddy system when styling an outfit. “Everything should have a buddy,” she says. “If you have something you really want to wear, add something else [that color] to your outfit.” She also recommends updating old outfits with new shoes or jewelry. “This can have the biggest impact on refreshing items you already own,” she says.
As shopping becomes as simple as pressing a button, it’s nice to know we can still find that personal touch.
