Edina’s First Mr. Hockey

Local hockey player earns prestigious award.

Being recognized for your accomplishments is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Recently a forward for Edina High School’s hockey team was recognized for his skills.

“I think the most special thing is being the first player from Edina to win this award,” says Sammy Walker, about his Mr. Hockey award.

Sammy has been playing hockey since he was a toddler, and now is moving on to play for the Gophers this year. As for his high school teammates, they’re pretty excited to see the award go to one of their own.

“There are a lot of big hockey players in Edina,” says Ben Brinkman, defenseman. “He makes us better, and we make him better.”

Ben will join Sammy next year as a Gopher. We’re excited to see them continue to improve throughout college and what they can do for the Golden Gophers.
