An expansion of the Edina Promenade, located near Centennial Lakes Park, was completed in September with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project had been in progress since spring 2015. “We created a water feature and a new path with landscaping,” says project manager and environmental engineer Ross Bintner. The water feature, a stream that starts above the pond behind Lunds & Byerlys, flows down and through the Promenade. Along the stream are small waterfalls, footbridges, pathways and benches where people can sit and enjoy the stream.
In addition to the water feature, the sculpture 3 Dancing SandHill Cranes was installed. This piece was Edina’s Arts & Culture second-place winner of the 2014 Public Art People’s Choice Awards, organized by Public Art Edina (a working group of the arts and culture commission) and was formerly displayed at 50th & France. According to Bintner, “art was a big part of the Edina Promenade project.” Besides the sculpture, artful design can also be found within the architecture of the project.
The Edina Promenade expansion marks the final piece of the Edina Promenade master plan, originally developed in 2007. The inspired design is perfect for enjoying a stroll outdoors this spring and summer.
