As Halloween approaches, so does the annual Edinborough Park Halloween party. This is a great opportunity for kids and families in costume to play in the park and participate in games, crafts, and, of course, eat candy.
“It’s focused on family time spent together in the park,” says Dawn Beitel, assistant manager of Edinborough Park and Aquatic Center. “We call it the not-so-scary version of Halloween.”
The park gets dressed up too: Although decorations for fall go up throughout the month of October, on the night of the party, the park gets a full Halloween-themed makeover. In past years, a magician, musicians and crafts have entertained Halloween partygoers. This year, an artist from the Edina Art Center will host a mask-making station. Park staff members get in on the fun by dressing in costume, distributing candy and coordinating games throughout the park.
Beitel says the Halloween party allows the staff to let loose a little more than normal. “It’s kind of a fun thing for them to be interacting with participants in a little different way,” she says. “They are actually down in the park playing, not sitting at a desk.”
Kids are welcome to trick-or-treat, play at Adventure Peak, swim in the pool or simply costume-watch. The party atmosphere allows for plenty of family fun time. “I just love seeing families come together and spend time together,” Beitel says.
