As Veterans Day approaches, plans to build a memorial honoring Edina’s fallen heroes are well under way. The statue, cast in bronze, will feature an eagle sitting atop a wreath, a symbol that is significant to every branch of the armed forces, according to Richard Olson, chairman of the Edina Veterans’ Memorial Committee. Thirty-two servicemen will be recognized at the memorial. Plans to dedicate the statue are tentatively set for Memorial Day 2015. “[The memorial] celebrates the patriotic service of veterans who have honorably served during times of war and peace,” Olson says.
