Finding the ideal eyeglass frames for your face can be a daunting task.

Finding the ideal eyeglass frames for your face can be daunting task. “If they have a place that has a good selection, their best approach would be to have an optician to help them. It can be overwhelming,” Bob McBeath, retail manager at Edina Eye, says. “With eyewear, by looking at their face and assessing the prescription, you can quickly eliminate certain frame types, shapes and styles.”

McBeath has the following tips to pick your next pair of frames.

  • Oval Face: You’ve won the frame lottery. You can pretty much go with whatever frame shape you prefer. You could get away with a round frame, square rectangular.
  • Square Face/Hard Jawline/Square Forehead: Stay away from a square frame with a hard corner and go with something softer like an oval shape.
  • Outgoing personality: Color is your friend. A bold color on a plastic frame is your best bet.
  • Quiet personality: A more subtle color on a plastic or metal frame.
