Edina High School seniors are required to complete a May term project. This includes the option of taking part in a project outside of school. For many senior girls, becoming a “Lemon Girl” is an ideal way to spend May term. Since 2011, a select number of Edina High School senior girls – affectionately termed “Lemon Girls” – have helped organize the annual Lemon Run/Walk on behalf of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood cancer.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing how big we can make it, and how successful we can be at raising money for the cause,” says Haley Beddor, one of this year’s “Lemon Girls.”
Allie Gordon has always looked forward to the year it would be her turn to be a “Lemon Girl.” “[Previous ‘Lemon Girls’] have always raved about how great the experience is,” she says.
Mary Hollway, co-founder of the Minnesota chapter of Alex’s Lemonade Stand, is constantly amazed and grateful for the many people in Edina who come out to support the cause. “Everyone in the city of Edina helps out,” she says.
“Lemon Girl” Abby Feinberg raves, “It’s such a great cause, and it’s helped so many people.”
