Ten years ago, Loyd rediscovered her spark to compete and she encourages others her age to follow suit.

The National Senior Games have similar rules and regulations to the Olympic games. In addition to track and field, competitions including bowling, cycling, golf, archery, pickleball, badminton, volleyball, basketball, softball, swimming and a triathlon. The Minnesota state games will be held August 1–9, and the national games will follow in July 2015. Loyd encourages athletes and non-athletes to get involved, “You can compete, volunteer, sponsor or spectate,” says Loyd. “Sometimes watching is just as fun as participating.”
