Cos Bar Edina Fall Fragrances

Our top five fragrance choices for the season, with help from the experts at Cos Bar.

Being blessed with the sense of smell is a wonderful gift. Catching a whiff of a familiar scent is sure to conjure a fond memory or two, whether it’s the Chanel No. 5 your grandmother always wore or the first bottle you purchased with your own money. To find the perfect fragrances to help us ease into autumn, we called on the experts at Cos Bar, Edina’s beauty hot spot.

“When I think of fall, I think of transitioning,” says manager Julie Boosalis. “Warm spices always remind me of fall and winter.”

While some Cos Bar customers choose a signature scent to wear year round, Boosalis says she often helps people select new fragrances seasonally. Keep in mind that perfume mixes with our own body chemistry, so fragrances that are naturally pleasing to you might not have the same affect on the next person. To get the most pure experience, remember to never rub your wrists together after spritzing on a new scent; doing so disrupts the natural chemicals of the perfume.

Above all, wear your scent proudly. Select something that makes you happy and that is reflective of your personality. For a push in the right direction, sample some of the following hot new fragrances on your next trip into Cos Bar.

Floral

Just a quick glance at Bvlgari Jasmin Noir is all it takes to know that this sleek black bottle is made for the fashionista. This seductive and sophisticated scent is reminiscent of a forest, and is a unique fusion of gardenia, jasmine, almond, wood and licorice notes. Bvlgari’s perfumes are also all natural, meaning the brand doesn’t use synthetic ingredients or fillers.

Spicy

For the woman who likes to grab life by the horns, Life Threads’ Gold and Ruby perfumes will coordinate perfectly with your fall wardrobe. In Gold, you’ll catch hints of spices like clove, pepper and cinnamon, plus essences of tangerine, plum, lily of the valley and vanilla to give the spices balance. Some of the same components are found in Ruby, like vanilla and several floral notes, but the two differ in that Ruby also contains rose, sandalwood and a hint of musk.

Exotic

“For Creed, fragrance is that finishing touch on an outfit. All of their scents evoke emotion,” says Boosalis, “from happiness to romance, or simply whatever you want it to be.”

The father-son generational company creates all of their bottles and fragrances by hand with only the purest scents and finest flowers. Creed’s Sublime Vanille is the perfect choice for when the weather turns from summer to fall. Whether you’re curling up on the couch by the fire or heading out for a night on the town, a dab of this combination of South American bourbon vanilla and citrus will put you in a good mood.

Sporty

Although the brand doesn’t disclose their ingredients, we detect hints of lime, peach, rose and cedarwood in Clive Christian’s sporty scent C. The most powerful aroma is Egyptian Jasmin, once said to be worn by Cleopatra to attract Mark Anthony.

Unisex

If you and your man want to simplify things, consider investing in a bottle you’ll both enjoy wearing. Even though it was designed for men, Boosalis says she regularly recommends Hermes’ refreshing Terre Dhermes cologne to both male and female clients as there are so many layers to the fragrance. Noteworthy scents are grapefruit, cedar, rose, pepper and geranium.
