The title of this year’s annual Edina Chorale Concert, “What Sweeter Music Can We Bring?” proves to be an apt theme for the dulcet tunes that emerge from this diverse group of Edina singers. The holiday concert, which features choir, oboe and bassoon music, also contains motets and carols penned by Rutter, Whitacre, Wilberg and more.
The night will be “a mix of traditional sacred music along with popular Christmas tunes such as ‘Silver Bells’ and ‘Silent Night,’” says Edina Chorale Board Member Ann Sundberg. The chorale will also perform a piece entitled “Sleep,” a song by virtual choir conductor Eric Whitacre that became a YouTube sensation last year.
Taking a fresh spin on the classic concert form, the crooners will perform in a cabaret setting on their first night, followed by a traditional setting on the second. Saturday night’s candlelit show will provide attendees with a “chance to enjoy the concert and relax after with a glass of wine and dessert,” says Sundberg.
