Karen Eckstrom, LICSW, used to work in a part of the mental health system—a system that she says is not meeting the clients’ needs. That’s why, 18 months ago, she took it upon herself to change things, creating the new Edina Comfort Care Clinic. While she acknowledges that there are hundreds of therapy and mental health options for Edina residents, she is adamant that the Edina Comfort Care Clinic is special.
Instead of the expensive co-pays, insurance fees and outrageous hourly fees that are typical of most therapy options, the mental health services offered at the clinic stay close to a $55 an hour rate because, as Eckstrom believes, “When we do the right thing, the moral, the money follows.” This attitude permeates the clinic as it strives to help people overcome challenges in their lives, while keeping costs accessible for every pocket book.
Eckstrom believes that this is what was missing from her previous job. “I was not living within my values,” she says. She is now, and the Edina Comfort Care Clinic is too, as it helps bring about transformation in people’s lives.
