It’s the month when we’ve all had just about enough of winter. The slippery roads at rush hour, the shoveling and snow blowing, and the biting air that takes your breath away will all give way to a spring melt, sooner rather than later (we hope). Until then, having dinner delivered sounds pretty nice. Or, at least, having it quick and ready with one stop on the way home. So, until that case of spring fever hits and you just can’t stay in any longer, we’ve got some delivery and takeout options you’re going to love.
Mediterraneo Pizza
Fans of the tender-crusted woodfired pizza at Mozza Mia should be jumping for joy. New this year, the pizzas are now available par-baked for carryout. Stick them in a preheated 500-degree oven for 5–7 minutes once you get home and buon appetito! Be sure the tell staff that you want it par-baked when you call in your order. The latest menu (note, menus are now changing seasonally) includes a hearty, tangy Mediterraneo ($14), with spicy salami, goat feta, olive, capers, artichoke and pepperoncini, and a Provencal ($12), with olive tapenade, tomato confit, bufala mozzarella and basil.

Go with the shrimp in lobster sauce, sautéed with mushrooms, green peas and baby corn ($7.50/small or $10.99/large). While it might be more of an Americanized dish, customers also love the sweet and sour chicken ($11.99), stir-fried with green peppers and pineapple.

One of your favorite casual Italian spots for eat-in or take-out is now offering delivery. Favorites like penne with Italian sausage ($11.99) or oven roasted garlic shrimp over spaghetti aglio ($11.99) can now be scheduled for delivery up to seven days in advance for same day delivery or delivery throughout the week. There is a $10 minimum and a $2 delivery charge. Delivery ranges within about three miles of the 50th and France location and service begins at 4 p.m. The items mentioned above travel well and tend to be popular for takeout, in addition to the caesar salad ($4.99/side salad, $7.69/entrée or $9.99 with chicken) and pan-roasted salmon ($13.59). Dressing for salads is always done on the side.

Salted Caramel Cupcake
If you can’t be there to celebrate a friend’s birthday in person, show how much you care with cupcakes. Sweet Retreat owner Robin Johnson says the store has delivered cupcake orders for birthdays, new babies, loss of pets and even breakups (with stickers that say, “He is dumb. Eat a cupcake!”). It’s one heck of an alternative to sending flowers, with a $25 delivery fee (within 15 miles) and a minimum order of one dozen cupcakes. Cupcakes are priced at $3, but they throw in a freebie when you buy a dozen, priced at $33. Mini-cupcakes are another option, priced at $1.50 each or $17 for the dozen. The addictive favorites include salted caramel, coconut, and choczilla—a chocolate cupcake topped with vanilla buttercream. Have one of these special packages delivered to someone’s home or office and you’ll have a friend for life.

Meatball Hoagie
A locally owned favorite for pizzas and hot hoagies, this Davanni’s delivers to most of Edina (call the Richfield Davanni’s for delivery if you live in the Southdale area—otherwise, call the Gus Young Lane location). You can’t beat the classic meatball hoagie ($3.75/half or $6.29/whole), with mozzarella and marinara sauce. Try the works pizza or the chicken Florentine with spinach and white sauce, available in thin, traditional or deep dish (ranging from $6.07–$19.08). Pizzas can also be ordered gluten-free. The egg salad sandwich offers a hint of spring, with red onion, celery, fresh dill and a house made dressing, served with cole slaw, chips and a pickle. Soups like the hearty corn chowder with roasted red peppers can be paired with a “bagel for a buck.” At breakfast or for an afternoon snack, go with a simple Mexican hot chocolate, infused with cinnamon and a generous slice of chocolate chip banana bread.

Pepperoni Pizza
The good old-fashioned pepperoni pizza is still the most popular item from Lake Harriet Pizza, an independently owned pizza joint offering delivery and carryout to Southwest Minneapolis and Edina residents in the 55424 zip code. The pizza is an old school square cut, loaded with cheese, toppings and a homemade pizza sauce. Combination pizzas run the gamut from vegetarian options like the artichoke deluxe with spinach, tomato, artichokes and green olives, to meatier ones like the supreme with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, green olives, onion and mushroom. Delivery costs $1.50 per order and pizzas range in size from 9”–20”, starting at $7 for a basic cheese and running up to $25.

Northern California Wrap
An easy fix for a bite on the run is the Northern California wrap at Peoples Organic, an organic sprouted tortilla filled with Schulz Farm organic chicken, avocado, sundried tomato aioli, sunflower sprouts, tomato and romaine lettuce ($11). The grilled tuna ($10), with dolphin-safe tuna salad, cheddar, roasted tomatoes and fresh basil, served on sprouted 16-grain bread with cole slaw, chips or a side salad, makes for another hearty lunch option. Don’t forget early morning fare, which can also be taken to go, like the Zone omelet ($9), with three egg whites, one yolk, goat cheese, roasted tomatoes and spinach, served with fried potatoes and organic toast. Several grab-and-go items are stocked in the deli case, like salads, yogurt and granola combos, and rice pudding.

Chicken Panang Curry
Big Bowl’s got it down pat when it comes to easy carryout, with online ordering (available for pickup within 30 minutes) and a dedicated staff serving to-go customers in a separate area at the front of the restaurant. Beyond the oft-mentioned chicken pad Thai ($11.95), one of the most popular dishes is the claypot chicken panang curry in peanut coconut curry sauce with fresnos and snow peas ($12.95 or $14.95 with shrimp instead of chicken). Rice is boxed separately so it travels well. For appetizers, try the pan-fried potstickers or steamed Chinese dumplings (both priced at $5.95).
