Starting February 25, a new massage studio will aim to rub Edina the right way. Eden Prairie resident Julie Thompson and her husband Greg own three soon-to-be Elements Therapeutic Massage national franchise locations in Minnesota, with Edina’s Yorktown Mall (3519 Hazelton Rd.) location being the first to open.
“[Massage] really is something that I believe in personally,” Thompson says. “I’m one of those people that exercise regularly and get chiropractic care, so it fits in with that too, in a sort of wellness triad.”
Thompson decided to open a massage studio and become her own boss in late 2010 after some restructuring took place at her previous company. The Thompsons bought three territories for their massage studios and plan to also open locations in Plymouth and Eagan over the next three years.
“I felt that our company filled a niche in the Edina community to provide relief from pain, injury and stress as others can’t,” Thompson explains. “There was a void in the area for a model like ours.”
Thompson’s location in Edina offers a variety of massages: Swedish, prenatal, sports, hot stone, and deep tissue massage; but has a particular emphasis on therapeutic massage.
Therapeutic massage focuses on dealing with long-term or chronic health issues. A lot of pressure is used during this massage to help with injuries and work out knots. So, it’s a little more intense than just a run-of-the mill Swedish massage, which serves only to relax the client.
The company takes both walk-ins and appointments. Massage times range from 55 minutes to 110 minutes, and cost between $89 and $169. A new client will pay $49 for an introductory massage.
Clients can also purchase a wellness program membership for $59 to $118 a month depending on the service. A membership will save you $30 on every massage, and can also be shared with immediate family members or a significant other.
To celebrate the grand opening at the Edina location, these prices and programs will be offered at a reduced rate. The first 100 members to sign up for the wellness program at Edina will be able to get a membership for $49 and $75 per month.
