A Race Against Cancer

Ninth annual Get Your Rear in Gear has gone national.
Twin Cities runners fight colon cancer with every stride. This year's Get Your Rear in Gear will take them through Edina's beautiful neighborhoods.

Motivated by hope and by her sister’s battle with stage-four colon cancer, Edina native Kristin Lindquist Tabor chose a “live life” approach for the fight against colon cancer. Founded by Lindquist in 2005, Get Your Rear in Gear consisted of a single race around Lake Harriet.  Nine years later, the Colon Cancer Coalition/Get Your Rear in Gear hosts nearly 40 events nationwide, working with volunteers all over the country to make the races possible and raising funds for colon cancer prevention, screening and education. For these reasons and to support the contributing communities, the money raised at each event stays local.

“Get Your Rear in Gear is bigger than just a message for colon cancer; it is a message for all of us to take action,” says Lindquist. The race this year will occur April 21, three weeks earlier than in previous years. The start and finish lines have also been moved to a more convenient location, beginning at Southdale Center in Edina. The course runs through a beautiful Edina neighborhood, then winds around Rosland Park.
