Smartphone Photos Can Help Feed the Hungry

A smartphone photo app helps foodies feed the hungry.
Post your foodie photos with the Feedie smartphone app at participating restaurants like Rice Paper and help feed the hungry in South Africa.

More than 65 percent of Americans eat out at least once a week. So when Rice Paper employee Thu Do saw a magazine article about the new Feedie phone app, she got excited. Feedie is a platform that transforms some of the millions of food photos taken by American foodies into donations to feed the hungry in South Africa. It’s simple: Once you sign up for Feedie, you simply take photos of your meals at participating restaurants and share them online with Feedie. Every photo shared with Feedie generates a donation from participating restaurants to The Lunchbox Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to providing a daily meal to vulnerable children in South Africa.

“I see people taking food photos all the time at Rice Paper in Edina,” Do says. “It’s our hope that diners will now share those photos with Feedie.” Rice Paper owner An Nguyen also hopes other local restaurants will participate, because with Feedie, food photos not only look good, they do good.
