Students in Edina swim programs have been known to quickly go from zero to 100 in terms of skill.
Annelise Colton, a competitive swimmer for the University of Minnesota, started on the Edina swim team at age 8. Swim club head coach Denise Carlson remembers Colton struggled at first, but ended up competing at the junior national competition and for the Edina High School team.
“Learning to swim is important primarily for the safety of the individual to be comfortable and competent in and around water. It’s also important for a person’s enjoyment, whether it’s recreational swimming or swimming for exercise” Carlson says.
Swim lessons for ages 3 to 17 are offered June 8 to July 30. Year-round swim team is open to kids ages 6 to 18, and masters’ swimming classes are open to adults age 19 and up.
“In the swim club [participants] can expect a structured practice that includes safety and swimming skill development, social development, and preparation for competition,” says Carlson.
