Prepping for Success

Local student Carson Knoer details his big plans.

High school senior Carson Knoer seems to have his future all mapped out. With an interest in engineering and a religious upbringing, he decided to attend Benilde-St. Margaret’s Catholic school in St. Louis Park.

This year, Carson will work in a group creating a search-and-rescue robot that they will compete with overseas. The project will provide an opportunity to travel to Japan next spring for the competition.

Carson has also discovered a love of medicine. BSM offers a multi-year bio-medical course, where students can learn in detail about the various systems of the body and are even able to practice surgery techniques. Carson hopes to pursue a career in medicine after high school.

The 17-year-old is already beefing up his communication and interview skills through theater and a modeling career. He says theater participation has taught him “how to hold strong conversations, which helps build interview skills.” He is state-ranked as a Triple Threat award finalist (in acting, singing and dancing) through Spotlight Education, a program of Hennepin Theatre Trust. As for his modeling work, he says, “every audition is like an interview.” Carson’s other activities include speech, soccer, choir and swimming (in which he is also state-ranked).

Carson is considering Chicago for college, hoping to stay in the Midwest while getting out on his own to pursue his plans for success and stability for his future.
