Edina Kids' Party Guide

13 ways to celebrate their special day.
Mad Science parties can be a hit with kids.

Ideas. Ideas. Ideas. Wondering what to do for that upcoming party? Whether at home or away, make some memories with these fun party ideas for kids on the move.

Let go of my LEGO:

There’ll be no arguing when blindfolded building races, a Jell-O LEGO dig, LEGO maze and chopstick relays keep active kids engaged. Clever Celebrations is a planning service that customizes any clever party you can imagine. Kids play games, build enormous towers and take home their sculpture creations.

Brandish your light saber and celebrate:

Young Jedis choose from 16 Star Wars-themed projects including building a mini R2D2 or making Yoda with glow-in-the-dark paint. They’ll be inspired, play games and bring home their creations. You can bring your own food to this party or have Kidcreate Studio come to your place. Gift bags let guests create at home too. Let the force be with you!

Kidcreate Studio, 7918 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie; 952.974.3438

Gone fishin’:

Did you realize that Centennial Lake is plum full of stocked fish? Throw out a baited invitation and have kids see who can catch one first. The park offers great places to celebrate an outdoors occasion. After they’ve caught their limit, trade the poles in for clubs and visit the putting course for a round of golf.

Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S.; 952.833.9580

For a customized keepsake:

Everyone gets to be creative during this do-it-yourself workshop. Choose from plates, mugs, bowls, vases, tiles and more. Kids especially love the animal figurines and piggy banks. The shop fires all creations so they are ready for pick-up within a week. Bring food and decorations to their party room and be sure to have the guests leave their mark on a plate for the kid of honor.

Slide into adventure:

Let your kids join in the high-climbing, low-crawling, slip-sliding adventure in this almost-one-acre indoor park. It’s especially great for parties during the cold months. They provide paper products, invitations and a tie-dye Adventure Peak t-shirt for the birthday kid. Colored t-shirts are also available so everyone is easy to identify while out exploring. Children will climb the trees and meander the pathways through this densely landscaped interior. Who knows what they might discover!

Order your party with the works:

Kids can play a harp with strings of laser light, squish and swirl and digitize their own faces, build towering structures and gear driven gizmos, build and race cars, and participate in a multitude of other fascinating activities. You can also send kids home with ooey-gooey, glow-in-the-dark dough or a kaleidoscope they’ve made themselves. It’s a hands-on, minds-on experience.

Let imaginations throw wild:

Here’s a place where kids can be really messy. Start in the open studio with an ever-changing assortment of art supplies. Next, throw some paint around, just like Jackson Pollock, onto a large canvas. Your child will create a masterpiece on a special 18-by-24-inch stretched canvas, perfect for later framing. Finish the party with Wikki Stix wackiness, creating sculptures for guests to take home with all their other pictures.

Just for grins and giggles—and wiggles:

This gym is just a hop, skip and jump away and your child and their friends can have the entire facility to themselves for games, music and fun activities created especially for your party. A professional instructor helps out by nurturing fun and giggles. It’s a little place to play big.

For future scientists:

Mad Science of Minnesota delivers a high-energy, interactive show full of bubbling potions, floating objects and the mystery of fireworks. They even make cotton candy and provide goody bags loaded with science-themed toys! Their wacky visit makes for an explosive celebration.

A blow-up bash:

Children can spend two fun-filled hours jumping, climbing and sliding in their own private inflated arena. Turn off the lights for a glow party and let kids move through the obstacle course wearing glow necklaces. Then, celebrate with pizza, drinks, goodie bags and balloons in the party room. No need to clean up the mess. Everyone can head home for a nap.

Pump it Up, 7406 Washington Ave. S., Eden Prairie; 952.943.0052

Making some creepy, crawly memories:

For a party that definitely gets a reaction, invite turtles, lizards and an eight-foot-long boa constrictor. The Reptile Experience lets you touch and hold many reptilian friends from around the world. Don’t forget your camera!

Turn grit into beauty:

Sand art is a unique way for tots to express themselves. Choose from a variety of designs including Spiderman, Batman, Superman, SpongeBob, Madagascar, Pokemon, Princess and many more to match your party theme. Have a specialist visit to help out, or simply order do-it-yourself sand art kits. Use glow-in-the-dark sand and your artwork will illuminate bedroom walls all night long.

Ding, Ding, time for a wrestling party:

The characters, the action-packed moves, the story lines—kids love pro wrestling! Make your kid’s party slamtacular with the help of professional wrestler Lenny Lane. He’ll demonstrate pro wrestling moves, interact in a real wrestling ring and pose for pictures with guests. Wrestling Parties provides invitations, a wrestling cake and t-shirts for everyone. The staff also takes photos for your private online photo gallery. Two signed pictures of party attendees in the ring with Lenny Lane complete the safe fun for everyone.
