You might remember Moses Mwaura from the inspiring “Moses Miracle” story Edina Magazine ran last summer, which profiled the Rotary Club of Edina’s efforts to bring him from the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, to Edina where he underwent surgery to correct his crossed eyes and damaged teeth. Upon returning to Africa, Moses experienced the benefits of this life-changing experience.
Last fall, the Rotary raised an additional $30,000 to fund the next 12 years of Mwaura’s education, allowing him to attend a school with high academic standards and varied extracurricular options. He started school at the Green Garden School in January.
“As the name suggests, green is the color of the uniform. Some Edina residents will be happy with the colors of the uniform,” explained Mwaura’s uncle David Waithaka in an email to Rotary members. “He was so excited to try on all his clothes, including shirts, sweater, jacket, socks, sports shorts, school shorts and swimming trunks. Moses came home from school with stories about having a great time in school. He made friends, played and sang, and the teachers were good to him.”
