By now, most Minnesotans have sprinted to the nearest water park or pool just to feel like summer is here. With June welcoming in our long-awaited season, the Edina Aquatic Center will soon open its gates.

This year the center will open on June 8th and will end its season August 19th. That gives any swimming fanatic plenty of time to enjoy their favorite activity or to enjoy a family day trip. This year, the Aquatic Center celebrates its 60th anniversary! The staff already has a few ideas in the works of how they’re going to bring the community in on some celebratory festivities.

“July 9th through the 15th, we are going to have a week of different activities,” says manager Patty McGrath. “Something for kids, and something for families that fits in the theme of community treasure.” Activities will likely be connected to the pirate theme in the park.

The Edina Swim Club will offer swimming lessons starting in June and going through July. For those who think swimming is a little tame, worry not. The flow rider will offer surf lessons, which are made by appointment for individuals and small groups. Lessons range from $59 for 30 minutes, and $108 for an hour on top of a daily admission pass ($11.50) if you don’t have a season pass.

Season passes can be purchased online for $66 as an individual or for the first family member to join, but all other additions are $60.75 each. Remember, season passes provide unlimited access everyday, so if you’re planning on spending a lot of time at the Edina Aquatic Center, this may be the way to go.
