For one weekend every June, artists and city residents converge on 50th & France for the nationally ranked Edina Art Fair. This year marks the 48th anniversary of this fun, family-friendly event, which features 300 artists from Minnesota, the U.S. and Canada. Artists display a variety of artwork including paintings, jewelry, pottery, glasswork and more.
But the summer heat and crowded sidewalks occasionally become overwhelming for parents with young children. So the 50th & France Business and Professional Association, host of the Edina Art Fair, devised a perfect way to enhance the enjoyment of the fair for families. Kid Zone is an oasis for families to take a break while enjoying a day at the fair. The Kid Zone has proven so popular among attendees that the association is beefing up the attraction; this year’s Zone will include a bouncy slide and a bounce house, two puppet shows, music and entertainment, food vendors, and a community art project. “It’s a fun thing and it grows every year,” says Rachel Thelemann, executive director of 50th & France.
This year’s Edina Art Fair will also feature an upgraded art auction with more easel displays, trip giveaways, shopping sprees, and merchandise giveaways. Fifteen percent of auction proceeds benefit the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota.
