Along with the blossoms of our springtime months, come their alluring floral aromas. From the flowering crabapple trees to the magnolia and dogwoods, the sweet smells of honey, sweet cherry and perfume erupt. Did you know that wine can take on some of the same aromas as some of our favorite tree blossoms? The compound responsible for this aromatic enticement is called monoterpenes. Grapes like Muscat, Riesling and Gewürztraminer carry these compounds. One of my favorites from this list of varietals is Fritz Haag’s ‘Brauneberger’ Kabinettt Riesling. Full of slate and texture, this wine’s mouthwatering lime zest, juicy red apple and white floral appeal will have you in the mood for springtime fare.
