Last year, at the Great Gatsby–themed Edina Chamber Gala, attendees took a trip to the roaring 1920s. There were feather boas, elongated cigarette holders and actors dressed as gangsters from the era—interacting with guests in a hilarious fashion. This year, gala guests will take another trip—this time to Hollywood.
“Dress up like your favorite movie star or be red carpet ready,” says director of operations Erica Hollom. Guests just might run into Greta Garbo or Gene Kelly as year after year, costumes become more elaborate and guests compete for the coveted Best Dressed award.
The gala, which supports the general operating expenses of the Edina Chamber of Commerce, has sold out the past five years in a row. “I think people like our event because it’s elegant but also fun,” says Hollom.
Although this lively, annual event is a chance to let loose and party, it’s also a popular networking opportunity. “A lot of our guests are corporate sponsors,” says Hollom. “From a business perspective it’s great marketing but it’s also fun.”
Besides the glamorous red carpet experience, guests will enjoy a three-course meal. This includes a starter, a surf-and-turf entree and a chocolate dessert. “We also offer complimentary cocktails throughout the evening and after dinner we have casino gaming,” says Hollom.
If you can’t snag a ticket to this year’s gala, there’s still a way to be a part of the fun. “Anyone can bid on our auction,” Hollom says. “You can bid live on your phone.” Auction items include sports and golf packages and a lovely Mexican villa vacation—a week stay for up to eight people.
Each year the Edina Chamber Gala has a few tricks up its sleeve, so expect a few surprises. But one thing we know for sure—it will be an evening to remember.
