Feeling altruistic this month? Here’s a great opportunity to make meals for the homeless, clear brush in the park or send care packages to the troops. Connecting with Kids, an initiative of the Edina Community Foundation, will hold its fifth annual Day of Service on October 26. Citizens are invited to visit the website at connectingwithkidsedina.org and simply pick a project. Share part of your Saturday with others devoted to service, and be a part of what makes Edina a wonderful place to live, learn and work. The Day of Service is about doing good work. But it’s also a way to build community between kids and adults, and sometimes perfect strangers, says director Kris Marshall. “It helps kids feel part of something bigger. They connect with others in their neighborhood and meet people other than their own parents. This helps kids develop strong values, have goals and ideas, and that keeps them out of trouble.”This year, Marshall is also looking for businesses in the community to step up and become sponsors of particular projects. She hopes that altruism is in the air. For information, visit edinacommunityfoundation.org
