As the Edina High School girls’ tennis team cranks up its season, you should know the team received the 2015 Minnesota Milestone Award as Minnesota’s “most inspiring and influential student-athletes, coaches and athletic leaders,” according to usta.com and were officially recognized this past February. The ceremony was in conjunction with the 29th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The team has won 18 consecutive state titles under coach Steve Paulsen, a national record. The girls also work hard volunteering, keeping to high academic standards and showing leadership in other areas of their lives. “I try to get them to dedicate themselves to taking ownership of the team,” Paulsen explains. “They put a lot of time into doing things outside of practice to become more of a team, and the tennis takes care of itself.”
