Edina Assessor Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

It’s a wonderful feeling to be recognized for your hard work—even better when recognized by your peers.

“It was the first award to be given at the [Minnesota Association of Assessing Officers, MAAO],” says Bob Wilson, assessor for the City of Edina. “I truly was very shocked.”

The MAAO helps assessors with a variety of things to help them do their jobs, and its Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Wilson for his instruction. As new assessors come in, the more seasoned ones teach them. Read more about Edina Assessor Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Rotary Club of Edina Presents 2017 Women in Leadership Award

The Rotary Club of Edina honored Lauren Morse-Wendt with this year’s Chrysanne Manoles Women in Leadership award. Morse-Wendt was chosen for her work with 66 West, an organization that provides housing for young adults who experienced previous homelessness. “Lauren was an easy choice for us,” says former Rotary Club president Jennifer Bennerotte, “She’s sort of a ball of energy.” Read more about Rotary Club of Edina Presents 2017 Women in Leadership Award

Lifelong Edina Resident and Historian Honored by Mayor

From farm to mill to suburb, Edina has a proud history, and Frank R. Cardarelle saw much of it happen. As a lifelong Edina resident, community volunteer and local surveyor, history is a common thread in Cardarelle’s life. Through his visionary work with the Edina Historical Society, Edina Rotary and other history-related causes, Cardarelle has had an enduring impact. This year, Cardarelle was honored with the Mayor’s Outstanding Senior Commendation, awarded to a senior citizen for outstanding volunteer service in the community. Edina Teacher Nominated for Award

Amazing teachers often provide incredible opportunities but don’t always receive the recognition they deserve. For example, Mrs. Kobany, who attended Edina public schools, graduated from St. Olaf College and began teaching at Southview Middle School (SVMS) in 2008, chose this career because she likes to connect with others through humor, creativity, and planning to bring learning to life.

Making It Look Easy to Be Green

Edina-based lawn irrigation company IrriGreen was a finalist in the 16th annual Tekne Awards. The awards, which honor innovative science and technology companies throughout Minnesota, were presented in November at the Minneapolis Convention Center. IrriGreen was nominated in the Energy and Clean Tech category, which focuses on companies that are innovative and/or enhance efficiency of energy usage or delivery, reduce environmental impact and encourage energy conservation. Nationally Ranked

In April, the DECA Nationals competition was held in Orlando, Fla., and attracted some of the most successful and talented high school students in the country to compete in events ranging from entrepreneurship to marketing. DECA is a student organization that aims to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. Edina High School brought 18 students, nine of whom advanced to the final round, and brought home three trophies. Read more about Nationally Ranked

Longtime Edina Rotarian Honored

Edina High School (EHS) seniors and juniors have received a fresh look at ethics in the workplace and life thanks to the efforts of Jerry Potter, a longtime Edina Rotarian who passed away this past June. Potter was the force behind “Do the Right Thing,” one-day seminars offered to students who glean information from speakers and translate the lessons into action during group discussions. Such practice can help lead to lifelong tools for ethical thought and action. The program is held in conjunction with EHS 212 Leadership. Read more about Longtime Edina Rotarian Honored

Edina High School Tennis Team Reaching Milestones

As the Edina High School girls’ tennis team cranks up its season, you should know the team received the 2015 Minnesota Milestone Award as Minnesota’s “most inspiring and influential student-athletes, coaches and athletic leaders,” according to usta.com and were officially recognized this past February.
