Many of our mothers, grandmothers and mother figures have been affected by breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Foundation understands the impact of raising awareness and funding to help combat this disease. The organization has awarded over $17 million in research grants in Minnesota and Komen Minnesota has invested more than $800,000 last year to aid in early detection and treatment of breast cancer along with funding overall breast health education. So make plans to head out this Mother’s Day to celebrate moms by participating or cheering on participants in the 27th annual Race for the Cure on Sunday, May 12 at Southdale Center in Edina. Many run or walk as teams or families. Many wear pink or vibrant costumes to add to the fun of coming together in support of women. And many are touched by the emotion of survivor celebrations.
There are a variety of events and activities to be a part of including a 5K wheelchair race, a 5K run, a 1K walk and a 5K walk.
Head to komenminnesota.org for registration and race day information.
