Rewarding Creativity

Edina writer wins Shabo Award.

Thirty-year Edina resident Sarah Rose was named one of eight winners of the Loft Literary Center's 2013 Shabo Award for Children’s Picture Book Writers. The award recognizes Rose’s stellar children’s book manuscript, and gives her the opportunity to revise her book with the help of successful illustrator Nancy Carlson.

“I love children’s books,” says Rose who won her first writing contest when she submitted an original riddle to Weekly Reader Magazine. More recently, Rose received her MFA in writing for children and young adults at Hamline University.

When she’s not working on her award-winning manuscript, Rose works as a full-time media specialist at Windom Dual Immersion School in Minneapolis where she is surrounded by inspiration: her students.
