A four-legged Edina hero passed away in January, just a week into retirement.
Diesel, a locally famous K-9 police dog, joined the force at 16 months old as Officer Mike Seeger’s partner in 2006. Diesel was thoroughly trained in tracking criminals and scent detection, but he wasn’t just a hit within the police force.
“I pulled the stats together, and he has had over 7,000 kids and adults pet him throughout his career,” Seeger says, “He loved going to schools and letting kids talk to him.” Diesel’s popularity was evident. Whenever residents noticed that Seeger was a K-9 officer, they would immediately ask, “Is that K-9 Diesel?” says Seeger, “I’ve always loved dogs, and what better way to come to work than with your best friend?” Diesel will be missed in the community.
Officer Sean Young will begin work with a new Edina K-9 police dog after attending 12 weeks of K-9 school with a German shepherd named Blitz.
