Ariana Song, a senior at Edina High School, was selected for the 2015 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, which took place in February in New York City. Song, a tenor trombone player, was joined by performers from 49 states and numerous countries for the special performance at one of music’s premier venues.
The Honors Performance Series showcases talented high school performers internationally, and receives more than 10,000 applications annually, of which about 500 are accepted.
Song has studied music for 13 years and is a member of several ensembles at Edina High School and in the greater Twin Cities. But, she explains, getting to play at Carnegie Hall with the best group of musicians her age was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
“So many other legends have walked the same stage as you have, and you feel special to be there,” she says. “Music has this incredible ability to unite people across the country, and I’m especially grateful to my teachers and community for enabling me to experience this.”
