Edina pastry chef and partner will compete in Las Vegas.
In January, local pastry chefs Erika Youngdahl and Jaime VanderWoude partnered up to compete at the Upper Midwest Bakery Association’s annual convention. After a grueling six-hour competition, these bakers walked away with the first-place title. Youngdahl is at Jerry’s Foods in Edina and VanderWoude works at Cub Foods in West St. Paul, owned by Jerry’s Foods.
“I was amazed that I wasn’t nervous,” says Youngdahl. The pair created an ivory wedding cake with edible pearls and hand-formed roses, a matching bridal shower cake and a toolbox cake with a moving drill for the groom’s dinner. Youngdahl and VanderWoude will move on to the national competition in Las Vegas in October.
