Community supported agriculture groups (CSAs), are a great way to support local farmers and the economy. Edina resident Amy Pampusch Olson first inquired about local CSAs on the website Next Door while researching how to get connected to these opportunities for trying new vegetables and recipes.
CSA participants can obtain fresh vegetables from a variety of local farms including Harmony Valley Farm, Easy Bean Farm and Featherstone Farm. Featherstone Farm also sells select produce at Whole Foods in Edina.
One of the many reasons to consider buying a CSA is that these foods are nutritious and organic. Olson feels that by obtaining produce via CSA, she’s setting a good example for her son by buying local and eating healthy. “It just feels good to support these local farms,” she says. In her opinion, the best part is that “it’s really fun to get these boxes because you never know what you’re going to get.”
You can find CSA pick-up sites in Edina at Whole Foods, Lunds & Byerlys, St. Patrick’s Church and the Good Samaritan Church.
