Volunteers act as guides for visually impaired mall walkers.
Vision Loss Resources hosts a mall walking group twice each month at Southdale Center. Sighted volunteers walk alongside VLR clients as guides to encourage fitness and camaraderie. “For many of our clients, walking group is a rare opportunity to get some exercise, and meet and socialize with new people in a secure environment,” says Joe McKinley, volunteer coordinator at Vision Loss Resources. As more volunteers join VLR’s walking group, more spaces become available for walkers.
