Bean + Ro is a charming gift shop and print house in Morningside. Co-owner Katie Miller sat down with us in the first of a series of interviews with local entrepreneurs.
Why Edina?
Part of our business is personalized gifts. One of the unforeseen benefits of selling zip code napkins, notepads and keychains is that we knew exactly what our best-selling zip codes were, so we moved into one of them.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Surround yourself with good people that you can serve and that will serve you well.
What is the one thing you would like people to know about local businesses?
Online sales are affecting us and I don’t know that we can fight that. At the heart of it, people don’t necessarily value local business over saving money until they need [to go to a store]. There is no big gifting season in January, February and March, [but that’s] when you should be popping into your local retailers because they start getting in the very newest.
