Too many cupcakes can be bad for your body but nourishing for your soul; in Edina, too many cupcakes means money to help disabled adults and children in the Twin Cities. On Wednesday, Aug. 21, The Westin Edina Galleria is partnering with Fraser, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting people with disabilities, to raise money and awareness through that most delicious of treats: the cupcake. Each person who stops by The Westin Edina Galleria from 6—9 a.m. on Wednesday will receive a free cupcake courtesy of A Cupcake Social. For each cupcake given away, The Westin will donate $1 to Fraser.

Former students will approach Bud and Jinny Jensen and share how influential the former Edina High School teachers were in their lives.
One former student told Jinny at a recent graduation party about how Bud changed his life.
“I thought to myself, ‘40 years and you never told him?’” Jinny recalls.
The Jensens have made a point of communicating their sentiments to role models who have impacted them.
“We always made sure that whenever someone did something that impacted us, we told them before it was too late, and they were gone,” Jinny says.

In 2007, when a group of Edina parents learned that Art Adventure (formerly Art Masterpiece) might be in danger of cancellation in the elementary schools, they came together to make sure the program, which brings art into the classroom once a month for students in grades 1-4, continued not only to survive but to thrive. Launched in the mid-1970s, also by parent volunteers, the program became such a success that it served as a model for the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) to develop a similar curriculum now used in schools statewide.

Whap! That’s the sound of a 100-mile-per-hour fastball smacking the rubber backstop at the Batting Cages of Minnesota.
I was standing outside the batter’s box asking myself if I was really going to step in and attempt to hit the next wiz of a pitch coming from the Pro Batter Simulator.
I tightened my grip, tried to recall the modest success I had against the 70 mph offerings and waited. The pitcher wound up on the video screen and the ball zipped out of the hole in the screen.
I swung early, but was still woefully behind. Strike!
