Edina Couple Handcraft Heritage Brand of Gin

With ingredients like rose petals, angelica, and lemon, Old Diamond Wedding Gin is not your average distilled spirit.

Edina residents Karen and David Rulifson are responsible for this modern take on a popular pour. “It started in our kitchen,” Karen explains. “We tried probably 70 different recipes until we got it where we really liked it.”
In addition to the gin’s seven botanicals, the Rulifsons wanted to put their own love and passion into the brand. “The proof is 88,” Karen says. “Eight is lucky in China, and our daughter is Chinese.”

  • 1/2 cup homemade date syrup (See below)
  • 2 ounces
  • Old Diamond Wedding Gin
  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice
  • 2 lime wedges

Stir together the date syrup, Old Diamond Wedding Gin, and cranberry juice. Squeeze the juice from one lime wedge and garnish with the other.

Date Syrup Recipe

Divide 8 Deglet Noor pitted dates into quarters. Add them to 2 cups of boiling water and let them soak for 15 minutes. Muddle the dates to release their natural sweetness and color. Strain out any date flesh. Makes enough date syrup for 2 cocktails.

Cheers to the Big Date!
