After 15 years in retail, Rena Lindberg has finally opened her very own store. A Minnetonka native, Lindberg watched the 50th and France area like a hawk while working in Malibu, Fla. When a space finally opened up, she thought it was “too good to be true.” Burlap & Brass opened in January.
Lindberg was drawn to the customer base and the atmosphere of 50th and France–its family-oriented vibe. She describes her store as “eclectic and vintage-inspired.” Everything from Jameson whiskey glasses made from old bottles to Twine and Twig horsehair tassel necklaces can be found there. Even the antique display furniture is for sale. There are small clothing sections for men, women and kids; however, the main reasons to stop in might be the beautiful jewelry and clever gift items.
Initial customer reaction has been amazing, she says, “We couldn’t have hoped for a better response.” Burlap & Brass is already getting out-of-town business from as far south as Texas. The store highlights items on its social media pages.
As autumn approaches, Lindberg predicts Minnesota-themed items will fly off the rustic shelves. Burlap & Brass carries Twin Cities-inspired items such as T-shirts and other gifts so customers can proudly represent our fair state. In the same vein, Lindberg has seen local and artisan selections preferred over larger corporate brands, which is great for the local economy. It is safe to say that what Lindberg’s little shop is selling is exactly what Edina is buying.
